Employee share schemes - affordable and widespread
An independent review of employee engagement carried out by the Department of Business Innovation & Skills found that one of the most important aspects is the relationship between employer and employee. A simple and cost effective way of improving this is by way of an employee share scheme, such as an Enterprise Management Incentive (EMI), Share Incentive Plan (SIP) or a Company Share Option Plan (CSOP) to name a few.
These schemes allow for individual targets and performance criteria in order to boost productivity in the workplace and improve morale within the office.
It was also found from the MacLeod review, which was conducted between October 2008 and May 2009, that these schemes work best when they are clear and easy to understand. It is important that employee share schemes are widely recognised where employees can identify the targets that must be reached in order to reap benefits. This would then, ideally, improve internal communications and overall business strategy.
A well designed and administered employee share scheme can be very affordable for a company and seen as a valuable asset to current and prospective employees.
