What is hybrid employee ownership?
Hybrid ownership describes the combination of direct and indirect employee ownership where companies are majority owned by an Employee Ownership Trust. The EOT holds more than 50% of the company’s shares on behalf of employees – this is indirect ownership. Individual employees may acquire and hold shares or share options of their own through an employee share plan – this is direct ownership.
It allows a business to get the succession and cultural benefits of an EOT while still being able to reward and incentivise key individuals directly.
